What is Fair Trade?

“Fair trade proves that greater justice in world trade is possible. It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first. It is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis.”

—World Fair Trade Organization

Fair Trade is a social movement and is considered one of the world’s most dynamic efforts to enhance global social justice and environmental sustainability through market based social change. The goal of Fair Trade is to help producers in developing communities achieve better trading conditions and promoting stability.

How does Fair Trade help?

As practitioners of Fair Trade, we make sure that we:

  1. Create opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers
  2. We are transparent when transacting with both producers and consumers
  3. Make use of fair trading practices
  4. Pay the workers of our partnered communities the amount they deserve
  5. Advocate against child labor and forced labor
  6. Commit to non-discrimination, gender equity and women’s economic empowerment and freedom of association
  7. Ensure that our artisans work in proper working conditions
  8. Provide capacity building
  9. Promote and explain the meaning and practices of Fair Trade
  10. Respect and care for the environment

How we work with our artisans

We always put our artisans first. When we work on any product, we don’t only think about how to make better products, but also how these items can benefit and improve the livelihood of our partner communities. We make sure to put our artisans in the center of any of our action plans because they are the reason that we do what we do.

In order to do our part of making the world a better place, we also work while keeping the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations during the historic 2015 UN Summit. We continue to work striving to fulfil the following goals:

We help and teach our partner communities to find ways on how they can create a sustainable source of income for themselves.
We empower women by motivating them to take charge of their lives and work. Not only will they be able provide more for their families, but they will have more financial independence and will not be limited to the household.
By keeping the communities in constant production, we hope to create a stable source of income for them.
We use upcycled materials to make out products; we use recyclable materials that are in good condition to reduce waste.
